Star Trek Anniversary GB - Alex's 1701-C

Alex

New on the Bench
OK, a quick recap on my Enterprise C for the 60th Anniversary group build.

This is the recent re release of the 1701-C in 'clear' plastic for paint 'n' scrape lighting.

Additional stuff including Aztec Dummy masks, Lake Monster (DLM) nacelle parts, 3rd party decals for missing details, and a simple nav/strobe board are being used to add some flair.

Note that the ship will not have battle damage and it will have a blue impulse engine!

Still uncertain about the base. I like the simple dome but am tempted by the light box with lcars display (or other art) from Cozmic Scale Models.

Now Christmas and New Year are over its time to get back to the bench.

Weather isn't really up to spraying and to be fair painting is what needs doing before much else.

Decided to look at the nacelles, and oh my...

That ain't straight! Hopefully some hot water will do the trick - but this isn't resin, it's that translucent plastic, so I'll need to be cautious as I've no idea how it'll react.

Otherwise the Lakemonster parts look lovely.

I have a soft spot for the 'lost era' ships, the Ambassador and Excelsior class being the kits I've built most often, in various scales.

I guess the C has enough in common with the TOS, Refit B and D that it feels familiar even if it is an odd duck.

Incidentally, I never liked the official (?) Probert design for the C. Looked like a Galaxy Class that'd been beaten with the ugly stick!

I gave the twisted nacelle a little of the hot water treatment. Made some difference but not fixed it, will have to use some serious gluing and clamping when the time comes.

Got the main paint colours down on the nacelles and pylons and gave it all a dry fit. So far, so good!

Undecided whether to finish the painting and do the secondary hull next or start plating with the wiring and leds in the nacelles (or the saucer?).

Got the paint down on the secondary hull. The grid pattern is a bit odd, but suits the mismatched character of the Ambassador class. A few small blemishes and little bits of paint chipped/lifted, but that's easily fixed when I get around to gluing and seam work.

I decided to open a few windows and was thinking to myself that I wasn't all that sold on the "paint n scrape" method. I'm not convinced it gives significantly better windows. Maybe on a bigger kit? But those tend to feature clear inserts.

Anyway, as I was musing I slipped.

Damn it! It can be fixed, but it took the wind out of my sails.

Little knock backs like this are what have me moving between projects so often. Speaking of which my next tough little ship for the group build is sat in pieces just over there. Tempting.
