This was a 24 hour build I did years ago on another forum. As the name suggests, the challenge was to build a model in 24 hours. Not an accumulation of hours not to exceed 24 but 24 hours in a row. This was my first attempt at this type of build. My subject, Airfix's newest release at the time, the Hawker Hurricane, Sea/ Hurricane MkIIc.
At the time I was doing a lot of these 1/72 scale kits and wanted to do something a little different. My muse: Was the Hawker Hurricane as seen in Battle Comics. Battle Comics was a British comic printed from 1975 to 1988. And the protagonist of this comic was a character named Johnny Red. He was a British pilot disgraced and kicked out of the RAF. After a series of incidents he found himself fighting for a rag tag group of Soviet patriots. At one point in the story he painted his faithful Hurricane red with big white skulls. I always thought that O would revisit this build at a time when I wasn't under the pressure of a 24 hour build but that time has never come. On the other hand while this is not a perfect build it has character and is an accomplishment. I will however try to find time for another build Of Johnny's, An all Red Mosquito that he acquired later on in the series.
I loved war comics as a kid and to this day still have many of those books in my collection like, SGT Rock, The Unknown Soldier, Weird War Tales, Men of War, SGT FURY, The Losers, and my favorite, GI Combat. Unfortunately I have not been able to acquire the Battle collection.
Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I hope that you will enjoy this build.
