New on the Bench
Here's my review on the HeyGears RS Turbo resin printer so far after purchasing it a month ago.
1. Printer - Price is currently $849. The construction on it is rock solid. Nothing plastic feeling or cheap about it. The lid flips up and back and is on a friction hinge. Stays in what position you put it in. Build plate goes on solidly with no wiggle of play at all. Printer automatically calibrates the build plate and does the leveling. Even if manual leveling is needed....its so simple. On screen instructions telling you which screw to turn and how much.
2. Vat that comes with the printer is the standard vat. I purchased the heated vat which was at an extra cost of $169.
3. Resin comes in either in a standard 1 liter round bottle ($32.99) you can pour or a square 1 liter type packaging ($55) that is slid downwards at the back of the printer and acts as an auto refill packaging.
4. Slicer Software - Blueprint. This software is super easy to use and with the resins offered by HeyGears already being dialed in for the 3 resolutions offered, (High Precision 30um / Standard 50um and Rapid 100um), you don't have to mess with any adjustments on support settings. You have the one click option of using One Click Slicing in which it automatically orientates the part for best printing, adds supports, slices it and sends it to the printer. One click!!
5. Results - The results so far have been the best I've ever encountered with resin printing since I started with this type of 3D printing technology 7 years ago. The repeated success rate, no failures and quality are outstanding. The surface areas that the supports are attached too are the cleanest I've ever seen and the supports come off so easy.
Cons for this printer are that to enjoy the profiles and dialed in settings for resin, you have to use their resin. I've seen some people start to experiment with using other resins and selecting profiles for the HeyGears resin with some success. I will experiment with that in a while.
Printer is not a speed demon at all. It's slow and steady with this printer.
Also is the cost comparison to comparable size build volume resin printers. HeyGears is more expensive. However with the next to no failure rate and just the predictability of the printer and the outstanding quality, the cost difference in my opinion is worth it.
Check the printer out, watch all sorts of YouTube reviews on it and give it a try. I'm super happy I did and from now will go with HeyGears.
