Colonial Shuttle MK-I (Battlestar Galactica TOS)

Rhaven Blaack

Primer Apprentice
I have decided to try my hand at building the Colonial Shuttle MK-I (Battlestar Galactica TOS) designed by Martin Saenger from http://www.paperaviation.de/ (where you can find other great models designed by him as well).
Here is a direct link to the model itself (from his site): http://www.paperaviation.de/Colonial_Shuttle/colonial_shuttle.html
Colonial-Shuttle-Blatt1.webp

The template consists of three parts sheets in all. I have printed each parts sheet four times, so that I am able to add even more greebles.

So, starting with the main body. Here are all of the parts for the main body.
20220425_155608.webp

Assembling the main body. The curve and angles can make it difficult to assemble everything. Take your time with it. If you have to, attach each tab at a time.

The main body is fully assembled.

Here is a small update. Starting with the rear side piping and a control box (which is (technically) steps 1-3 in the instructions. However, I found that it is easier to assemble the body first, then add everything on to it).

Here are the parts for the piping.

The piping is applied.

Time for a small update on my progress. I decided to do some greebling work before adding anymore regular additional parts (as I did not want to mess up those parts whilst adding the greebles). Needless to say, there is a top of greebling in this model.

I have finished the top, front, and rear of the shuttle.

Here is the front (and top front, angled) of the shuttle.

Here is the top front.

I had to raise the panels and add the greebles before I proceeded with adding additional regular parts.

Starting with the "top" side panels. I raised all of the panels and some of the piping that is directly attached to the panels.
20220507_235127.webp

20220508_151934.webp

Moving on to the "bottom side panels. I raised all of the panels and some of the side hatches that is directly attached to the panels
20220509_085054.webp

20220509_085126.webp

I added all of the greebling on both the "top" and "bottom" side sections.

Here is the other side.
20220514_124816.webp

20220514_124823.webp

I added all of the greebling on the underneath section.

Now that the (majority of the) greebling is done, I can move on to adding more regular parts.

This is the rear bottom section that is right under and between the engine exhausts.
1770477414657.webp

Here are the parts rear bottom section. Granted, there are only a few parts for this section. However, there is still quite a bit of greebling potential with these parts. With the duplicate parts, I am only going to show one assembled, and then both attached in place.
20220514_142343.webp

20220514_144123.webp

With this component, I raised the panels and recessed the circles and the vent.
20220514_161715.webp

This component is in place.
20220514_162132.webp

With this component, I raised the panels and the circles.

The connector pieces are attached in place.
20220515_133117.webp

With this component, I raised the panel that is on top.

This component sits directly between the engine exhausts.
1770478466549.webp

Here are the parts for this component.
20220516_113502.webp

When assembling the main part of the component, start with the back piece and the edge piece. Start attaching the edge piece in the top center and work your way around the edge by attaching each tab separately on alternate sides.
20220516_152214.webp

Attach the front plate and the rest of the parts for the component. I raised the printed texture to show depth and detail.
20220516_201558.webp

Here is another update. This component is both tedious and fiddly to assemble.
1770478765278.webp

Here are the parts for these components.
20220517_190749.webp

Like I had mentioned in the previous updated post, when assembling the main part of the component, start with the back piece and the edge piece. Start attaching the edge piece in the top center and work your way around the edge by attaching each tab separately on alternate sides.
20220517_213446.webp

20220517_213901.webp

The other side is attached.
20220517_214150.webp

The component is now greebled out.
20220518_082601.webp

20220518_082615.webp

The components are attaching in place.
*NOTE* There is a small area to attach these components to, so you might want to use a stronger adhesive (I used super glue) to make certain that they will not fall off if bumped.

Thank you one and all for the kind words and encouragement! I hope that you enjoyed viewing this as much as I enjoyed building it!

That shuttle always remind me of a munchkin cat; all body, no legs. 😄 You did a great job adding all that detail; it doesn't look like a paper model. In what did you print the design, cardboard?
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, I have to agree, it is a rather odd shape.
The template is printed on 110# cardstock (that I purchased from Walmart).
